Germany, Singapore, and the Writers' Workshop are represented

The 2012 series of free Sunday Prairie Lights readings, featuring writers from the International Writing Program (IWP) and the University of Iowa’s graduate writing program, will continue at 4 p.m. Sept. 30.

Lucy Fricke

Fiction writers Lucy Fricke from Germany and Stephanie Ye from Singapore will be joined by Writers’ Workshop poet Grant Souders.

Fricke worked extensively in film and television before studying literature at the Deutsches Literaturinstitut in Leipzig. She has gone on to publish two novels, and she has organized literary events for the Berlin International Poetry Festival and the Leipzig Book Fair. Fricke currently directs the HAM.LIT festival in Hamburg. She participates in the IWP through the support of the Max Kade Foundation.

Stephanie Ye

Ye’s work has been published in journals including the Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, the Mascara Literary Review, and Sci-Fi Short Story Magazine. Her first solo publication is a chapbook,The Billion Shop, published this year. She has also worked as a copy editor, arts reporter, and book critic for the Straits Times. Ye’s participation in the IWP was made possible by a grant from the Singapore National Arts Council.

A visual artist as well as a poet, Sounders is the author of Relative Yard, and his literary work has also been published in A Literary Journal and Phoebe.
