President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, first lady Michelle Obama, and Jill Biden made a rare joint appearance at the University of Iowa Sept. 7, addressing a crowd of thousands on the UI Pentacrest and T. Anne Cleary Walkway.

Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses and current status as a battleground state make the university a frequent stop for presidential candidates. Obama last visited the UI in April to present a policy speech.

Friday's event was hosted by University Democrats. Click the photos below for some scenes from the afternoon.
