Free event is Sept. 20 in Art Building West
Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Los Angeles-based artist Brian Bress, a visiting artist in the painting and drawing area of the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will present a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Room 116 of Art Building West.

Bress

In his low-tech video works, humorous characters, all played by the artist, struggle with interpersonal relationships, the pursuit of intended goals, and the desire to communicate.

Manipulating pictorial and sculptural conventions through fantastically hand-crafted sets and costumes that combine drawing, painting, and collage, Bress creates a disjunctive world where spaces of imagination and representation compete for equal footing.

Bress received his bachelor of fine arts degree in film/video from Rhode Island School of Design in 1998 and his master of fine arts in painting from UCLA.

The School of Art and Art History is a unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. For accommodations at the event, contact the school at319-335-1771. For a UI arts calendar and event details, visit the new Arts Iowa website.
