Wednesday, September 5, 2012

University of Iowa Recreational Services is sponsoring the annual Steve Goff Memorial Cross-Country 5K Run/Walk Sunday, September 30, to benefit a scholarship fund established in the late professor's name.

Steve Goff was a faculty member in the Department of Health, Leisure, and Sports Studies who advocated for student involvement in healthy activity. He died of cancer at the age of 43.

All proceeds go to the Steve Goff Scholarship Fund, which offers yearly scholarships to undergraduate leisure studies students.

Goff lived his life by the motto “Life is not a spectator sport,” and was known for encouraging his students to participate in activities that promoted health and well-being.

The 5K will be held at Ashton Cross Country Course, located near the Hawkeye Recreation Fields on Hawkeye Park Road. Walkers begin at 9 a.m. and runners begin at 9:30 a.m.

Registration is $12 prior to the day of the race, and $15 on race day. Entry forms are available online at recserv.uiowa.edu.
