Matt & Kim will bring spunky, groove-heavy music to the University of Iowa Pentacrest on Sept. 28.

Indie pop duo Matt & Kim and the high-energy rock group Grand Funk Railroad will co-headline the 2012 University of Iowa Homecoming concert.

The show will take place on the Pentacrest lawn on Friday, Sept. 28, immediately following the parade. (The parade is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m.) The event is free and open to the public.

Matt & Kim (Matt Johnson on keyboard and Kim Schifino on drums) are a “quintessential party band,” with spunky, groove-heavy music that rouses audiences into mass dance parties. The duo has been featured on a variety of commercials and television shows. Their hits include “Daylight,” “Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare,” and “Cameras.”

Grand Funk Railroad has helped define American classic rock since its inception in 1969. The Flint, Michigan-based group is known for soulful, blues-inspired rock anthems like “We’re An American Band,” “Some Kind of Wonderful,” and “I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home”
