Critically acclaimed indie rock band will play in the IMU Ballroom
Friday, August 31, 2012

Manchester Orchestra will perform in the Iowa Memorial Union Ballroom at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

The critically acclaimed ensemble combines elements of folk, pop, and garage rock with big-scale composition and soaring melodies that achieve a unique kind of intimacy and honesty.

In 2007, Manchester Orchestra’s first album, I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child, became a critical favorite, with the New York Times praising it as “music to swoon to” and as one of the year’s best emo albums. The group's 2009 follow-up, Mean Everything to Nothing, also was warmly received, and included the hit single “I’ve Got Friends.”

The band’s newest release, Simple Math, is a concept album about youth and young manhood with an emotionally charged sound.

Tickets go on sale at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 4. They are available at The Hub in the Iowa Memorial Union and at all Ticketmaster locations.

Persons with disabilities are encouraged to call 319-335-3041 for special seating accommodations.
