The National Iowa Varsity Club has extended the registration deadline for its inaugural Fitness for Life run to Wednesday, June 27. The one-mile Fun Run and 5K events will be held Saturday, June 30, at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.

The Fitness for Life initiative is designed to develop positive habits that will lead to a lifetime of healthy choices and active lifestyles for athletes of all ages. A portion of the registration fees will benefit the Iowa City Community School District and Iowa City Regina K-6 physical education programs.

The one-mile Fun Run begins at 8 a.m., and the 5K begins at 9 a.m. Following both runs, all participants are invited to attend a complimentary tailgate party with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, non-alcoholic beverages, and healthy snacks. There will also be games for kids and appearances by Herky the Hawk and the University of Iowa Cheer and Dance Squads.

Entry fee for the 5K is $30 per person and includes chip timing, a moisture-wicking T-shirt, and event bag. There are six age divisions for males and females. The Fun Run entry fee is $10 and includes a commemorative bib number and a participant ribbon.
