Raúl Curto, executive associate dean in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), will serve as interim dean of the college from July 1 to Aug. 15.

Current Dean Linda Maxson will step down from the position June 30 after 15 years as the head of the college. Chaden Djalali, professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of South Carolina, was named the new, permanent dean of CLAS May 11 and will take over Aug. 15.

Curto has served as the college’s associate dean for faculty since 1996 and executive associate dean since 1998. He directs the faculty recruitment, appointment, and review processes as well as the appointment of teaching assistants. He also administers university personnel policies for faculty and graduate assistants in the college and is the director of diversity for CLAS.
