UI researchers collect river sediment to check for PCB presence
Friday, May 25, 2012

A team of University of Iowa engineers recently spent a day on the Mississippi River collecting core samples in an effort to learn more about the river. Iowa Now tagged along to take pictures of the process.

The team gathered several core samples from the Mississippi River, so they can look for PCBs. The sample data will be compared to similar cores collected from the Iowa River to see how they compare.

If they find something, this preliminary study could develop into a bigger study. Results from these samples could be in by the end of the summer.

The team is using the facilities at the Lucille A. Carver Mississippi River Environmental Research Station as their base for this study.
