For the third year in a row, the University of Iowa has been listed in The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges.

Developed by The Princeton Review in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, the guidebook profiles higher education institutions that demonstrate commitment to sustainability in academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities, and career preparation. The Princeton Review chose the schools based on a 2011 survey of college administrators about their institutions' sustainability-related policies, practices and programs.

The guide calls the UI a “green campus trailblazer” and notes its 2020 Vision plan to achieve net-negative energy growth, 60 percent waste diversion, and a 40 percent target for renewable energy using locally produced biomass. Sustainable design practices have been in place for a decade, leading to 10 LEED-certified buildings on campus.

Princeton Review publishers say college-bound students are increasingly interested in sustainability issues, and the guide provides application information plus facts, stats, and summaries. It is free and available for download—the UI listing is on page 150.
