Awards honor academic, social, and other achievements
Friday, May 4, 2012

University of Iowa colleges and UI faculty members may nominate accomplished individuals for honorary degrees for presentation during the 2012-13 academic year. Nomination packets are due June 29.

The UI Honorary Degree Selection Committee's recommendations must be approved by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa.

The University of Iowa will award honorary degrees to three Iowans during spring 2012 commencements.

Individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievements in research, scholarship, education, artistic creation, social activism, human rights, innovation or invention, and humanitarian outreach are eligible for nomination. Current UI employees or elected office holders are not eligible.

Nomination packets should include a letter of nomination that describes the nominee’s achievements, and an additional four letters of support—at least two of them from faculty members in the appropriate UI college.
