Tuesday, May 1, 2012

The University of Iowa will rededicate the recently reopened Art Building West (ABW) Thursday, May 3.

ABW houses a variety of classes, including painting, photography, graphic design, and art history, as well as a library and auditorium. It was among some 20 UI buildings damaged in the flood of 2008, and is the first UI arts facility with major damage to be reopened or rebuilt after the flood.

Tours of ABW will be offered at 3 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by a program that will include remarks by UI President Sally Mason; Linda Maxson, dean of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; John Beldon Scott, director of the UI School of Art and Art History; Chris McVoy, senior partner with Steven Holl Architects, which designed ABW; and UI student Christopher Merkle, who is majoring in studio art and art history.

Parking for the event is available in Lots 28, 42, and 55.

Anyone requiring special accommodations to attend this event should contact Annette Niebuhr at 319-335-1376.
