Philip Levine, U.S. poet laureate and alumnus of the University of Iowa, will give the keynote address at the sixth annual writing conference presented by the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

The Examined Life: Writing, Humanities and the Art of Medicine is a three-day conference that focuses on the links between the science of medicine and the art of writing. This year's conference will be held Thursday–Saturday, April 19-21, at the UI.

Other featured speakers are Nellie Hermann, author of The Cure for Grief and director of the Program in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University, and David Watts, a gastroenterologist at the University of California-San Francisco, poet, classically trained musician, television producer/host, and occasional narrator on NPR.
