Pottebaum, Tobin UISG’s next president and vice president
Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Nic Pottebaum and Jessie Tobin will serve as the next president and vice president of University of Iowa Student Government.

Pottebaum is a junior economics and political science major from Marion, Iowa. He has been involved in UISG since his first year at Iowa, most recently serving as speaker of the senate. He’s also participated in the Iowa Policy Research Organization, served as an Honors Peer Advisor, and is a member of the President’s Leadership Society.

Tobin is a junior international studies major and Spanish minor from Des Moines, Iowa. She served as secretary of the UISG senate for the past two years, is a member of Chi Omega sorority, and a volunteer at Wild Bill’s Coffee Shop.

Nearly 25 percent of undergraduate students voted in the UISG elections, held online on April 4 and 5. Pottebaum and Tobin, running on the “I Party” ticket, captured 58 percent of the vote in a two-party race. An inauguration ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on April 22 in the Paul W. Brechler Press Box at Kinnick Stadium.

Pottebaum and Tobin say their top three priorities for the next year are increasing student safety by implementing a SafeRide taxi system; improving the everyday experience for all undergraduates attending the UI; and ensuring that UISG is transparent to the student body.
