Iowa City police—with assistance from University of Iowa police—captured a man suspected of robbing the Gilbert Street Hills Bank Monday morning, an incident for which the UI and Iowa City Community School District issued alerts as a precaution.

The suspect was apprehended after fleeing the scene on a motorcycle and leading police on a chase through residential neighborhoods and other areas on the city's west side, including near the Hawks Ridge (formerly The Lodge) apartments in the 900 block of Harlocke Street area.

The incident led the school district to lock down nearby schools and issue an alert vial phone, text, and email. UI Police also issued Hawk Alerts notifying faculty, staff, and students about the incident, including one notifying the campus community that the suspect was in custody.
