Organist Dean Billmeyer, a guest of the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a free recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in the Congressional United Church of Christ.

The program will be the finale from the 1st Sonata for Organ, Op. 42, by Felix-Alexandre Guilmant; Apparatus Musico-Organisticus by Georg Muffat; selections from the Leipzig Chorales and the Prelude and Fugue in G Major, BMW 421, by J.S. Bach; Ecce Lignum Crucis—A Meditation, by Anton Heller; La Processional de la Fête d’un Village surprise par un Orage, Op. 1, by Jean-Antoine Blanc; and Prelude and Fugue in G Minor, Op. 7, No. 3, by Marcel Dupre.

Billmeyer, a Grammy nominee and winner of the First Dublin International Organ Festival Competition in 1980, has appeared as a recitalist and clinician throughout the United States, as well as in Austria, Ireland, Britain, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. His performances have included a number of world premieres and have received numerous broadcasts in both America and abroad.

He has appeared more than 100 times with the Minnesota Orchestra, and he performed with the orchestra in 2004 on its European tour in concerts in Vienna and London.

He currently heads the organ and harpsichord program at the University of Minnesota, and is the sixth, and longest-serving, University Organist in Minnesota’s history.
