A $100,000 gift to the University of Iowa Foundation will create two scholarships for undergraduate students in the UI College of Engineering.

The gift from Ko-Chang and Maria Pan of Fort Myers, Fla., creates two scholarship funds: the Ko-Chang and Maria Weiyi Liu Pan Engineering Scholarship, and the Dr. Royce E. and Shirley N. Beckett Engineering Scholarship.

The latter is named in honor of Royce Beckett, a former UI engineering professor, and his wife, Shirley, of Davenport, Iowa, who served as strong mentors to Ko-Chang and Maria as they pursued their degrees at the UI.

Ko-Chang received a Ph.D. degree in mechanics and hydraulics from the UI in 1969. Maria received a Master of Science degree in mathematical statistics from the UI in 1967.

Both scholarships will be awarded annually, and candidates must meet requirements set forth by the college.
