April isn’t just Earth Month and RiverFest—it’s also Financial Literacy Awareness Month. Activities and resources for increasing one's financial literacy are available on campus for students, faculty, and staff.

The university this fall will offer a 1 credit hour course, Managing Your Money (407:008). Registration can be made on ISIS.

UI students who are experiencing financial difficulties can get counseling through the Student Credit/Money Management Program (800-826-3574).

If worrying about money is a large part of your day or night, consider a free consultation to get professional assistance. To begin the process, contact Faculty and Staff Services at 319-335-2085 to schedule an appointment.

TIAA-CREF provides free retirement savings consultations to UI staff with a TIAA-CREF retirement plan. If you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your TIAA-CREF portfolio with a representative from the TIAA-CREF Coralville office, call 319-356-8000 or visit www.tiaa-cref.org/moc.

The Benefits Office offers free monthly financial education classes. And check out the “Training and Education” area on the " Saving Extra for Retirement" page. For 2012, the maximum annual contribution to the Voluntary Retirement Savings Program has increased, and you can open an account with as little as $16 a month.

And perhaps you can fund that new account through the savings available to UI faculty and staff. Check out the “Discounts” area of the Staff Resource Guide.
