Concert includes Aaron Perrine world premiere

The University of Iowa Symphony Band and Chamber Winds will present the world premiere of UI School of Music composition doctoral student Aaron Perrine's Beneath a Canvas of Green in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Iowa Memorial Union Ballroom.

The program, conducted by faculty member Richard Mark Heidel and graduate students Ernest Jennings and Marc Decker, will also include Toccata Marziale by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Rondino in E-flat by Beethoven, Chester by William Schuman, and Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Carl Maria von Weber.

School of Music faculty member Nicole Esposito will be the flute soloist in Precious Metal: A Concerto for Flute and Winds by D.J. Sparr.

Perrine, who is studying at the UI with David Gompper and Lawrence Fritts, has been commissioned and recorded by various colleges, high schools, and middle schools across the country. One of his compositions, April, was a finalist in the first Frank Ticheli Composition Contest. This piece was also a JW Pepper "Editors' Choice" and was a featured composition in Teaching Music Through Performance in Band, Volume 7.
