Gospel choir to perform in Riverside March 27
Monday, March 19, 2012

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the Soweto Gospel Choir at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort’s Event Center.

Dedicated to celebrating the inspirational power of African gospel music, the Soweto Gospel Choir combines the traditional with the contemporary. The group’s vibrant costumes, rich harmonies, and energetic dance are hallmarks of Soweto Gospel Choir performances.

The 22-member South African ensemble has performed with U2, Celine Dion, John Legend, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and has collected an Emmy and two Grammys, among other honors.

The Soweto Gospel Choir first performed at Hancher in 2005, singing for more than 3,000 people in a “Stage Door” performance for area school children and a public concert.

Tickets are $32-$37 for nonstudent; $10-$33.30 for college student; $28.80-$33.30 for senior citizen; and $16-$18.50 for youth. Tickets are available in advance from the Hancher Box Office, 319-335-1160, 800-426-2437, www.hancher.uiowa.edu.
