Pharmacy students help reduce environmental impact of unused medications
Sunday, March 18, 2012

University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students are helping keep unwanted, unused, and expired medications out of the state’s water supplies. As participants in the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s TakeAway program, pharmacies across the state encourage patients to return unused medications for safe and environmentally friendly disposal.

College of Pharmacy students are hosting TakeAway awareness events at area pharmacies. They speak with customers about safe medication disposal, collect unwanted medications, and answer questions.

Students will present March and April TakeAway events at Towncrest Pharmacy, 2306 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City:

  • Friday, March 23, 2-5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 24, 2:30-5:30 p.m.
