Christopher Norment

In the Memory of the Map: A Cartographic Memoir by Christopher Norment is now available from the Sightline Books series of the University of Iowa Press.

Norment, a map fanatic since boyhood, explores the complex relationship among maps, memory, and experience. Interweaving a personal narrative structured around a variety of maps with stories about maps as told by scholars, poets, and fiction writers, this book provides a personal and intellectual account of what many of us take for granted.

Norment is professor of environmental science and biology at SUNY College in Brockport, where he specializes in the breeding biology and ecology of migratory birds.

Sightline Books: The Iowa Series in Literary Nonfiction ranges from cultural commentary, nature writing, and historical inquiry to meditation, memoir, and narratively or thematically linked personal essays by emerging as well as established authors.

The book is available at bookstores or directly from the UI Press, 800-621-2736 or www.uiowapress.org. Customers in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa may order from Eurospan Group at www.eurospanbookstore.com.
