Arsenic testing in Iowa above EPA standards

The State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa performed 490 arsenic tests for well water throughout Iowa. From these, 189 tests (38.6 percent) showed the presence of arsenic at or above the quantitation limit of 1 parts per billion (ppb). An interactive map is available for browsing.

Iowa resident tests positive for Zika virus

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Feb. 19 announced that an Iowa resident, who recently traveled to countries with ongoing Zika virus transmission, has tested positive for the virus. Iowans traveling to areas where there is ongoing Zika virus transmission should take care to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

UI computer simulations to mitigate military injuries

The Virtual Soldier Research Program at the University of Iowa has been awarded a $2.6 million grant from the Office of Naval Research to create a simulation program to predict and prevent musculoskeletal injuries in U.S. Marines—one of the leading medical problems impeding military readiness.

The University of Iowa will conduct a campus climate survey to examine sexual misconduct occurring on campus, including sexual harassment, dating violence, stalking, and sexual violence. All degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, and professional students will receive an email invitation to complete the Speak Out Iowa online survey on Monday, Oct. 26.
