A safety message for the University of Iowa community

Over the weekend of Aug. 25–27, reports of violent acts on and near our campus left many of us feeling shaken and concerned. Safety is our highest priority, and UI Police are working closely with Iowa City Police to provide as safe a community as possible.

UI researchers conduct largest survey yet of PCBs in schools

New research by the University of Iowa shows that polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chemicals known to cause cancer in humans, are present in old window caulking and light ballasts still used in many schools.

Update: Fire investigation at Bowen Science Building complete

Investigators have determined the cause of the fire was accidental and that it was likely started by an idle electrical extension cord.

Update: Bowen Science Building fire

A June 11 fire in the Bowen Science Building caused an estimated $500,000 in damage, not including water damage. Administrators are working to determine the logistics for those impacted. Many will be housed within other space in the building. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Two-Step Login expands to MAUI, ICON, and MyUI

The University of Iowa has expanded Two-Step Login to web-based applications, including MAUI, ICON, and MyUI, and campus cyber-security experts advise all UI faculty, staff, and students to enable the feature for these applications.

Gas leak at Catlett Residence Hall causes street closure

During construction on Catlett Residence Hall about 10 a.m. Wednesday, a gas line was hit resulting in a gas leak. Catlett Residence Hall is a new building, currently under construction, and is not occupied by students.
