Iowa Flood Center reminds Iowans about Web tool

With the recent heavy rains the Iowa Flood Center (IFC) at the University of Iowa reminds Iowans about an online tool, the Iowa Flood Information System (IFIS), which provides information about community-specific flood conditions including current stream and river levels at nearly 275 U.S. Geological Survey and IFC gauges across the state.

Mudslide, rains impact access and Cambus service at Mayflower

Heavy rains overnight caused a mudslide behind Mayflower Residence Hall late Wednesday night and flooded parts of Dubuque Street, leading this morning to the closure of its north and south lanes from the front of Mayflower to just south of Foster Road and forcing the rerouting of Cambus service.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires public utilities to monitor the water supply for specific contaminants that may pose a risk to human health. The State Hygienic Laboratory at the UI is the only state environmental public health laboratory approved to test for all 28 chemicals on the EPA's new list of contaminants.

UI's Suls discovers tornados survivors are more optimistic
