The University of Iowa will participate in the annual statewide tornado drill between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The outdoor warning sirens in Johnson County and around campus will sound a tornado watch for 30 seconds at approximately 10:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to monitor NOAA weather radio before and during the statewide tornado drill and to exercise their severe weather safety plans as they would during a real event.

If severe weather is threatening the area the day of the drill, it will be postponed and held on Thursday at the same time.

Because of the the tornado drill Wednesday, Johnson County will not conduct its normal outdoor siren tests on the first Wednesday of April. The normal test schedule will resume in May.
