Pharmacy grads reap residency benefits

Ninety percent of graduates from the UI College of Pharmacy landed the residencies they wanted in 2016. That's well above the national average of 68 percent, according to the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. Completing these competitive residencies will improve the graduates' chances of securing the jobs they want.

For more than 20 years, the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the UI College of Dentistry has partnered with the nonprofit organization Proteus Inc. to provide on-site dental services to the children of migrant farmworkers. Parents were invited to bring children ages 18 and younger for a free exam.

Changes coming to clickers

This fall, students will begin using laptops, tablets, or phones to respond to polls in class. Those who own clickers must exchange them the first week of class to get a license for the new software.

Iowa Flood Center joins with NASA to study soil moisture

The University of Iowa has employed an on-campus glassblower for more than a century. Benjamin Revis, the UI's current professional scientific glassblower, custom designs and repairs equipment for researchers and artists alike. His shop is located in the Chemistry Building, but he performs work university wide.

Some of Iowa's first early farmers were a small group of Native Americans in southwest Iowa. The Glenwood people farmed individual plots for about 150 years until mysteriously vacating the region about A.D. 1350. The Office of the State Archaeologist at the UI is researching the group's past.

UI sees increase in federal support of research, scholarship in fiscal year 2016

Federal support of University of Iowa research and scholarship increased 4 percent in fiscal year 2016, with substantial gains from both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF). Federal research funding increased $8.5 million over FY15, from $231.9 million to $240.4 million.
