The UI has hired a contractor to cut and grind dead and dying pine trees into biomass, allowing the UI to further develop the concept of using local, sustainably managed biomass as fuel, according to Liz Christiansen, director of the UI Office of Sustainability.

Outdoor warning system sirens in the Iowa City area, including on the University of Iowa campus, will sound twice over the noon hour Friday, Jan. 18, as part of a test. Johnson County's countywide radio system software was recently upgraded and the test is intended to make sure it's working properly.

As part of the 2013 Live Healthy Iowa 10-Week Wellness Challenge, Live Healthy Iowa has selected the second annual Dream Team. Jennifer Long, a UI Heart and Vascular Center employee and heart disease survivor, brings her story of health challenges and lifestyle changes to the Dream Team.
