Documentary examines struggles in American health-care system

The University of Iowa hosts a free, public screening of the film "The Waiting Room," a character-driven documentary that captures the raw reality of the uninsured patients and doctors and staff at Highland Hospital, a safety-net hospital in Oakland, Ca. The event takes place at 7 p.m. in the HNI Auditorium of the Pomerantz Center and is sponsored by the UI's Public Policy Center.

Directing a theater production is a bit of a balancing act. Kristin Clippard has walked this tightrope many times, and loves every minute of it. She will direct "She Stoops to Conquer," the final production of the 2012-2013 University Theatres Mainstage season; the show opens April 19 in E.C. Mabie Theatre.

Researching rural refugees

Cristina Ortiz grew up as part of the lone Latino family in Leon, Iowa. The UI anthropology graduate student now lives in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and is researching the growing Chin Burmese refugee population that lives in this community. She will present her research Friday, April 5 as part of a panel presentation during the Refugees in the Heartland Provost's Global Forum.

Students to perform 'Music Through the Centuries'

The University of Iowa School of Music will present “Music Through the Centuries,” a free concert of music for organ, harpsichord, and voice, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus. Students will sing a variety of solo vocal music from composers Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, Bach, Boulanger, Faure, and Davidson.
