University of Iowa officials coordinating the flood response announced Monday that they will suspend daily briefings after today because of increasingly favorable weather reports and water levels in the Coralville reservoir and Iowa River.

The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety will conduct a routine, campus-wide test of its Hawk Alert emergency notification system at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9.

University of Iowa officials said Sunday they are continuing to monitor the weather, but with a favorable forecast and improving conditions at the Coralville reservoir, attention will begin to shift next week toward assessing costs related to recent flood protection measures.

With Saturday night’s fireworks still planned at Hubbard Park, weather permitting, University of Iowa officials again remind the public that tampering with flood barriers is prohibited, constitutes trespassing, and may compromise their effectiveness.

Because of the current risk of flooding in low-lying areas, including Dubuque Street in front of Mayflower Residence Hall, visitors to the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City should avoid the I-80/Dubuque Street exit (Exit 244).

With installation of a 12-foot HESCO wall around Mayflower Residence Hall under way Tuesday, University of Iowa officials are now making plans to begin installing flood barriers around Art Building West and along the banks of the Iowa River throughout campus.

The City of Iowa City will close the two northbound lanes of North Dubuque Street this afternoon (weather permitting) or Tuesday morning to allow for the installation of flood barriers around the University of Iowa’s Mayflower Residence Hall.
