The University of Iowa has again been named a top producer of Fulbright students for 2017–18 with 16 recipients, marking the third year in a row the university has achieved the elite ranking.

Bringing it home: Samaniego and team return to Ecuador for neurosurgeries, training

UI neurologist Edgar Samaniego and Santiago Ortega-Gutiérrez, director of neurointerventional surgery, are taking their fifth trip to South America to perform surgeries and train local providers. This time they’re going to Hospital Eugenio Espejo in Quito, Ecuador—the hospital where Samaniego did his first clinical rotations as a medical student.

UI students to be honored for photography on campus and abroad

The UI was also one of only four U.S. schools to receive the 2017 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization.

Quasars may answer how starburst galaxies were extinguished

University of Iowa astronomers have located quasars inside four dusty starburst galaxies. The discovery may explain why this type of galaxy, where huge numbers of stars were once created, ceased making stars.

Young African Leaders Initiative fellows visit Iowa City, tour the state

Twenty-five Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) fellows arrived in Iowa City June 16 to learn about the American economy and the basics of operating their own business. During their six-week stay, the fellows have been traveling across the state visiting farms, religious institutions, art galleries, and large businesses.

Algharrawi earns UI Research Foundation Inventor Award

UI Museum of Art reaches Iowans by operating outside the box

Record 16 UI students, alumni receive Fulbright awards for 2017–18

Sixteen University of Iowa students and alumni have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to conduct research, attend graduate school, undertake creative projects, or serve as English teaching assistants abroad in 2017–18, breaking the UI’s previous record of 15 set last year.
