The Iowa Board of Regents has appointed Mark Braun to serve as the Transformation Project Manager for the TIER study, effective Monday, Aug. 25. Braun is currently the Chief of Staff and Vice President for External Relations for the University of Iowa and is taking a leave of absence from that position to fill this new role.

“I am pleased to share with you the news that Mark Braun, vice president for external relations and chief of staff, will be taking a leave from his work here at the University of Iowa to direct the Board of Regents’ efficiency project.

I have worked closely with Mark over the past seven years, and I know that he is very skilled at guiding complex initiatives, building consensus, and helping teams to achieve results. He is absolutely the right choice to take on this important position. I have enjoyed working with Mark in his current role, and I look forward working with him in his new role.”

Braun will start his new position Monday, Aug. 25.

Mason is appointing Peter Matthes to fill Mark’s position for the time that he is “on loan” to the Iowa Board or Regents office. Laura McLeran, assistant vice president for external relations, will oversee the Office of the President and act as the president’s liaison with regards to institutional outreach and engagement.

Ann Goff will take on the role of Transparency Officer, coordinating the UI’s response to Freedom of Information Requests.

“All are very talented and capable people, and I know they will do a great job for us,” Mason says.
