The University of Iowa’s instructional design team will present at an international convention for instructional design, the 2019 AECT International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The convention is organized by the Association for Educational Communications and Technologies (AECT), a national and international advocate for the improvement of instruction and the most widely recognized source of information concerning instructional and educational technology. AECT is a professional association of instructional designers, educators and professionals who provide leadership and advise policy makers in order to sustain a continuous effort to enrich teaching and learning.

The UI’s instructional design team’s proposal was accepted by AECT in a competitive selection process. The UI’s team will present “A Unique Faculty Training Model at the University of Iowa: A Best Practices Report,” which will summarize the team’s efforts in various programs provided to campus, such as Design4Online, a faculty training program that recently won a 2019 Online Learning Consortium Effective Practice Award.

Collaborators on the programs include Amy Oberfoell, Dan Dao, Isandra Martinez-Marrero, Susan Bailey, and Director Ron Kral. Dan Dao and Amy Oberfoell will be presenting at the conference on behalf of the team. The UI’s instructional designers collaborate with campus instructors to help design and implement online and in person courses, using pedagogical principles, learning theories, and technology.
