The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance featuring the All-University String Orchestra and the UI Chamber Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.

The All-University String Orchestra program will feature:

  • Overture for Strings by Gordon Jacob; Benjamin Nadel, conductor
  • Music from Abdelazar by Henry Purcell; Hyeyoun Jang, conductor
  • Adagio in Sol minore minor by Tomaso Albinoni; David Tedford, conductor
  • Symphony in A by Johann Friedrich Fasch; Chun-Ming Chen, conductor

The Chamber Orchestra program is as follows:

  • Der Schauspieldirektor, K. 486 (The Impresario): Overture by Wolfgang A. Mozart; Benjamin Nadel, conductor
  • Summer Day, op. 65bis; Children’s Suite for Small Orchestra by Serge Prokofiev; David Tedford, conductor
  • Symphony No. 36, K. 425, C major (Linz) by Mozart; Chun-Ming Chen, Hyeyoun Jang, conductors

The Chamber Orchestra, designed for graduate students, is based around the ensemble format established during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Its repertoire covers a broad range from Classical and early Romantic composers to contemporary.

The All-University String Orchestra is designed specifically for non-music majors who wish to continue playing their string instrument while studying at the university. This unique experience includes students from diverse academic pursuits throughout the university.
