The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance by Excelsior! Trio at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall.

The program will feature:

  • Spain by Chick Corea
  • Subtraction Addiction by Patrick Zimmerli
  • Six Épigraphes Antiques by Claude Debussy
  • The End Unplugged by Jorge Variego
  • Maya by Ian Clarke
  • Dash by Jennifer Higdon
  • All I See Is You by Dave Kos
  • Trio No. 1 for Flute, Alto Saxophone, and Piano by Russell Peterson

Excelsior! Trio features Deb Harris (flutes), Russ Peterson (saxophones), and Jay Hershberger (piano). The trio was officially formed in 2009; the three members of the music faculty at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., have been performing together on and off since 2001. Excelsior! Trio performs an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, folk, and contemporary chamber music. The unique combination of flute, saxophone, and piano results in an unusual variety of sound, timbre, and style.
