University of Iowa School of Music students enrolled in String Chamber Music and Piano Chamber Music will perform free concerts at 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 8-9, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall.

The concerts will feature composers such as Menotti, Schumann, Kodaly, Beethoven, Borodin, Penderecki, and Ravel.

The students enrolled in these UI courses include string players, pianists, and several clarinet players. They worked with Elizabeth Oakes, coordinator of the UI String Quartet Residency Program, over the course of the semester. They also worked intensively with the Jack Quartet during that foursome’s UI residence, and several groups performed in a master class with the St. Lawrence Quartet before Thanksgiving.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. For accommodations at the concert contact the School of Music at 319-335-1603. For a UI arts calendar and details about upcoming events visit the new Arts Iowa website.
