The University of Iowa College of Engineering will hold the second annual Richard L. Valentine Distinguished Lecture from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in Room W290 of the Chemistry Building on the UI Campus. The talk is free and open to the public.

Peter J. Vikesland, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Polytechnic and State University, will speak on “Nanomaterial Enabled Detection of Environmental Contamination."

Vikesland received his doctorate in civil and environmental engineering from the UI College of Engineering in 1998 and his graduate advisor was Richard L. Valentine, UI professor of civil and environmental engineering since 1982 and a pioneer in disinfection byproducts research, including their chemistry and kinetics as applied to drinking water treatment and water distribution systems.
