Thursday, June 14, 2012

The National Iowa Varsity Club is hosting a "Fitness for Life" run Saturday, June 30, at the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.

The "Fitness for Life" initiative is designed to develop positive habits that will lead to a lifetime of healthy choices and active lifestyles for athletes of all ages.

The event will feature a one-mile Fun Run at 8 a.m. and a 5K at 9 a.m. Following both runs, all participants are invited to attend a complimentary tailgate party with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, non-alcoholic beverages, and healthy snacks. There also will be games for kids and appearances by Herky the Hawk and the University of Iowa Cheer and Dance Squads.

Entry fee for the 5K is $30 per person and includes chip timing, a moisture-wicking t-shirt, and event bag. There are six age divisions for males and females. The Fun Run entry fee is $10 and includes a commemorative bib number and a participant ribbon. A portion of the registration fees will benefit the Iowa City Community School District and Iowa City Regina K-6 physical education programs.
