Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The countdown to the 2012 University of Iowa football season is under way, but fans don't have to wait to get their Hawkeye fix. The BTN will hold its second “Iowa Day” of the summer Thursday, June 28.

The network is scheduled to rebroadcast four UI football and two men's basketball games to go along with wrestling and Big Ten Icon coverage.

The day begins at 5 a.m. CDT with coverage of the 2009 Big Ten Wrestling Championships before showing the Big Ten Icon series featuring former wrestling coach Dan Gable.

At 8 a.m., the network will air the 2004 men's basketball regular season victory at Indiana before showing the Nile Kinnick Big Ten Icon special at 10:30 a.m.

The BTN digs into the vault beginning at 11 a.m. by airing the 1986 Holiday Bowl where Rob Houghtlin's 41-yard field goal as time expired culminated an 18-point rally to give the Hawkeyes a 39-38 victory over San Diego State.

At 4 p.m., fans will get the opportunity to go back to the 2002 Iowa football season, where the Hawkeyes downed Purdue, 31-28, inside Kinnick Stadium.

The third UI football game—a 34-27 overtime victory over Michigan State in 2007—will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the men's basketball team's 67-65 win over No. 6 Purdue during Fran McCaffery's first season as head coach.

Fans can cap off the day's coverage by reliving Iowa's 31-27 win over Pittsburgh during the 2011 season, where the Hawkeye pulled off the biggest comeback in school history.

The third and final "Iowa Day" will be held Thursday, July 19.
