From June through September, representatives will visit communities throughout Iowa in a van featuring the colors and icons of the new children’s hospital. Community residents and visitors will have the opportunity to take a virtual tour, participate in hands-on activities, and learn more about the new UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital that opens in December 2016.

The first stop for the road show happened during Scandinavian Days in Story City, Iowa, on June 3. Story City is the geographic center of Iowa and one of 12 Iowa communities that will be featured as part of a unique art installation in the lobby of the new children’s hospital.

The new UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital is designed as a healing environment that improves the health and well-being of children and their families, matching the quality of care and compassionate service being delivered today. The entire facility has been designed to minimize stress, encourage hope, provide comfort, and promote healing, including public spaces that enhance play, discovery, and relaxation.

Construction began on the new hospital in the fall of 2012. The new hospital is 14 floors (12 above ground and two below ground) and 507,000 gross square feet of new construction. At 164 feet high, it is the tallest building in Iowa City. To learn more, visit www.uichildrens.org/buildingupdate.
