A team from the Tippie College of Business captured third place in the Syngenta Crop Challenge April 11 in Orlando, Florida.

The team consisted of Sam Burer, professor of management sciences; Bhupesh Shetty, a Tippie doctoral student; and Ling Tong, an undergraduate student majoring in business analytics and information systems (BAIS). Their challenge was to use data analytics to develop a model to predict which varieties of seeds farmers should plant to maximize yield. It was sponsored by Syngenta, an agricultural biotechnology firm, and INFORMS, a professional society for practitioners of information-systems management.
