University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld has appointed Liz Hollingworth as the new chair of the Presidential Committee on Athletics (PCA), replacing Professor Jeff Cox, who served two years as chair and maintained the university’s top-tier rank in the Big Ten and NCAA for student-athlete achievement.

Harreld says Hollingworth’s five years of service on the PCA, as well as her experience in the College of Education, make her exceptionally prepared for the role and emphasize the important educational perspective she brings. She is an associate professor of educational leadership.

In addition, Nicole Grosland, professor of biomedical engineering, has been named faculty athletics representative, a role previously filled by Ellie Herman, clinical professor of teaching and learning.

Grosland performs research in the Center for Computer-Aided Design and was chosen as a 2015–16 Academic Leadership Program fellow at the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC). She has served on the PCA since 2015.

The PCA is the advisory committee for the UI president and the director of athletics on policies governing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition to ensuring consistency between Big Ten, NCAA, university, and state policies, the PCA periodically apprises the faculty, staff, and student constituency organizations of the status of athletics at the university and nationally.
