Concert marks the end of Hancher’s post-flood journey
Wednesday, February 3, 2016

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present vocalist Bobby McFerrin on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort Event Center. The concert will be the final Hancher performance before the opening of the new Hancher Auditorium in the fall.

McFerrin, perhaps best known for his 1988 hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” is a 10-time Grammy Award winner. Whether performing alone or in collaboration with performers like Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea, and the Vienna Philharmonic, McFerrin has created new ways to employ the human voice to make joyful music.

For his Hancher performance, McFerrin will be joined by local musicians, including saxophonist Damani Phillips, bassist Richard Wagor, percussionist Edgar East, and the Zion Lutheran Church Senior Choir.

McFerrin’s performance is supported by Richard and Mary Jo Stanley, as well as by the Hancher Partners and gifts to the Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Tickets, which are $45/$35 for nonstudents, $40/$10 for college students, $40/$31 for senior citizens, and $22/$10 for youth, are available from the Hancher Box Office.
