Fred Stern, University of Iowa George D. Ashton Professor of Hydroscience and Engineering, received a $470,170 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of the Navy for "Global/local flow measurement system for free-running models for added powering/speed loss, course keeping/maneuvering and instability/capsize in regular/irregular variable heading waves." Stern is a professor of mechanical engineering and faculty research engineer at IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering.
