The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the Claudettes in a free Club Hancher at the Mill performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16. The performance is a collaboration with the Mill, which is located at 120 East Burlington Street in downtown Iowa City. No tickets are required.

Pianist Johnny Iguana and drummer Michael Caskey suggest the band’s sound is an amped-up hybrid of Otis Spann, Ray Charles, and Mose Allison. The high-energy fusion of blues, soul, and jazz is neo-vaudevillian and has earned the duo fans in Chicago and well beyond. Iguana has performed with a wide array of musicians and on Grammy-nominated albums, while Caskey is a DownBeat magazine award winner.

The band’s new album, No Hotel, is set for release Sept. 18, but advance copies will be available at the performance.

The Claudettes will also provide live music for Lucky Plush Productions’ performances of The Queue in Hancher performance at Space Place Theatre on Sept. 17 and 18 (see related story).

The Claudettes’ performance is supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to the Hancher Circle through the University of Iowa Foundation.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the Hancher Box Office in advance at 319-335-1158.
