After two trials and several appeals spanning the course of the last six years, a jury has ruled that former University of Iowa College of Law Dean Carolyn Jones did not discriminate against Teresa Manning (formerly Teresa Wagner) for her political views or affiliations.

The verdict, reached Monday, June 29, after only an hour and a half of deliberation, confirms the UI did not engage in political discrimination when it decided not to hire Manning.

This is the second time a jury has ruled unanimously in favor of Dean Jones and the university. The first case had to be retried solely because of a procedural error by the magistrate judge.

“We are pleased with the outcome, and happy to put this case behind us,” says Gail Agrawal, Dean and F. Wendell Miller Professor of Law in the UI College of Law.

The university is an equal opportunity employer and engages in fair hiring practices.
