The Iowa Board of Regents has announced the composition of the University of Iowa Presidential Search and Screen Committee.  The 21-person committee will include nine representatives from the UI faculty and three members of the Board of Regents.

“Given that the university has more than 200 academic programs, we felt it was important to have a broad cross section of faculty represented on the search committee,” says Board of Regents Executive Director Bob Donley.

The committee also includes two representatives each from the UI Foundation and UI Alumni Association, the presidents of the UI Staff Council, Student Government, and Graduate and Professional Student Government, and two members of the public appointed by the regents.  Earlier this week, the board announced the committee would be chaired by UI Vice President for Medical Affairs, Jean E. Robillard.

“We believe this committee structure represents all stakeholders and are grateful to the Board of Regents for the high level of faculty involvement in the presidential selection process,” says UI Faculty Senate President Alexandra Thomas.  “We are confident that this will be an inclusive, transparent, and highly successful process.”

Members of the public who would like to serve on the committee or nominate another individual should contact Marcia Brunson at mbruns@iastate.edu no later than Thursday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m.  Nominations should include a name, contact number, and no more than 250 words of why they should be considered for appointment.  The final list of committee members will be announced on Feb. 16.

The chair, Robillard, will hold a public forum on campus on Feb. 16 to hear which qualifications students, faculty, and staff believe will be most important in selecting the next president.

Donley and the Board of Regents Chief Academic Officer Diana Gonzalez will serve as ex-officio members of the committee.

The Board of Regents office recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit search firms to assist with the presidential search.  The proposals are due in the board office Friday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.  Donley anticipates the search firm will be selected and announced to the public by Feb. 12.
