The Iowa Board of Regents passed a resolution honoring University of Iowa Public Safety Director Chuck Green for nearly two decades of service Wednesday, Dec. 3.

The resolution thanks Green for his expertise, integrity, and dedication to the state of Iowa during his nearly 20 years as the director of public safety.

Green has worked at the UI for a total of 29 years, which includes nine years as a manager of security and fire safety with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and 20 as the assistant vice president and director of Public Safety.

During his time at the UI, Green made significant improvements to the university's safety planning and disaster training by establishing a full-time Crime Prevention Officer, Fire Safety Coordinator, and Emergency Management Coordinator.

He also expanded the police field-training program, developed a new Regent's Comprehensive Campus Safety and Security policy, and planned construction of a new Department of Public Safety.

Green's retirement is effective Jan. 9, 2015.
