Christine Grant, women's sports pioneer and Title IX advocate, gives distinguished lecture in UI College of Education Nov. 11.

What: Women’s sports pioneer and Title IX advocate Christine Grant (Ph.D. ’74) will discuss “The Politics of Sport” as part of the University of Iowa College of Education’s Distinguished Speaker Series.

When: Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m.

Where: Grant’s talk will take place in the Teacher Leader Center, Room 140 Lindquist Center North. It will be followed by a reception and is free and open to the public.

Who: Grant was the first women’s athletics director at the University of Iowa and held that position for 27 years. Grant is a tireless voice for equity in athletics and has testified on Title IX and gender equity before several U.S. House of Representatives subcommittees and has served as an expert witness in many Title IX lawsuits. She served as president of both the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women and the National Association for Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators.

She was named one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America by the Institute of International Sport. She has been inducted into the State of Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics’ Hall of Fame.
