The following pieces will be performed during Dance Gala 2014:

Five Rejections and a Funeral, choreographed by Charlotte Adams. Five Rejections and a Funeral joins Dilbert in skewering the hardships, heartbreaks, and frustrations that seem to affect employees everywhere; peer reviews, letters of rejection, bureaucracies, bosses, firings, auditions, job applications, and more rejections that bring a “little death” with each receipt. Humorous in part, darker in intent, the piece becomes a way to dispel the message of “NO!” as it recognizes the weirdness of working predicaments and the laughter inherent in “yes.”

When Colour Aligns, choreographed by Nicholas Leichter.

Riding Mad Horses, choreographed by Jennifer Kayle.

De Antônio, de Brincante e Vira mundo, choreographed by Armando Duarte. De Antônio, de Brincante e Vira mundo is an abstract work based on the popular culture of “Frevo,” originally from the state of Pernambuco in Northeastern Brazil. The choreography is also inspired by the work of Antônio Nóbrega, one of the most important and influential artists of Brazil in the 20th century.

hands up DIS/UNITY-make this not us against them, choreographed by Esther Baker-Tarpaga. This is an installation performance created in a one-week residency with artists from dance, intermedia, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

Following the Oct. 25 performance, Baker-Tarpaga will lead a talk back. Her environmental installation piecewas developed over a one-week residency in collaboration with the artists. Baker-Tarpaga and her team will talk about the piece and its development process.
